Cold Chain Technologies (CCT) has announced the European launch of its EcoFlex range, a family of reusable temperature-controlled parcel shippers specifically designed for the pharmaceutical sector. The move is a significant step in the company’s strategy to provide more sustainable and cost-effective cold chain solutions across regional and last-mile healthcare logistics networks.

EcoFlex is now available across Europe and leverages a hub-based operational model and dedicated Centres of Excellence, enabling pharma companies to deploy reusable thermal packaging solutions at scale and still achieve stringent temperature control.

The EcoFlex product is a temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical designed for a leasing model that provides customers with high-performance reusable packaging without the baggage of large inventories. The approach seeks to minimize the total cost per shipment, storage needs and sustainability goals.

According to CCT, EcoFlex can reduce fossil fuel consumption by up to 60.3% compared with conventional single-use shippers. The solution also helps organisations minimise waste generation, lower CO₂ emissions, optimise freight and packaging processes, and better manage thermal, mechanical and regulatory risks throughout the supply chain.

The programme is supported by CCT C.A.R.E, which helps customers develop reusable cold chain solutions tailored to their operational requirements. A key component of this ecosystem is the company’s ReNew programme, an end-to-end support platform that manages returns, reverse logistics, refurbishment processes, digital tracking and shipment assurance throughout the packaging lifecycle.

Combined with CCT’s wider suite of digital tools, predictive technologies and data-driven models, the EcoFlex ecosystem is designed to help pharmaceutical companies reduce costs, improve efficiency and minimise environmental impact.

To support ESG initiatives, customers also gain access to the company’s “Track Your Landfill Avoidance” dashboard, a reporting tool that provides detailed visibility into the environmental benefits generated through reusable packaging programmes.

The European rollout is supported by operational infrastructure in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Ireland, providing the service coverage necessary to manage large-scale reusable cold chain programmes reliably across the continent.

Kristian Williams, Senior Director of Sales – EMEA at Cold Chain Technologies, said the expansion will allow pharmaceutical customers to benefit from a more integrated reusable packaging and service model while improving performance throughout their cold chain operations.

Beyond sustainability gains, CCT highlights several operational advantages associated with EcoFlex, including reduced packaging inventory requirements, increased operational flexibility, the ability to prepare shipments ahead of weekend dispatches, hibernation capabilities for conditioned assets awaiting deployment, and improved responsiveness to changing demand volumes.

David Webber, Senior Global Marketing Manager at Cold Chain Technologies, described EcoFlex as a major advancement in reusable temperature-controlled shipping.

He explained that the solution was developed to minimise waste and CO₂ emissions while simplifying packing and unpacking processes, improving packaging performance and helping customers manage thermal, mechanical and regulatory challenges more effectively.

EcoFlex units can be delivered fully conditioned and equipped with pre-printed return labels, enabling a circular logistics model where packaging is returned, refurbished and redeployed through the support of the CCT ReNew programme and its associated digital tracking systems.

The European expansion follows CCT’s acquisition and integration of Tower Cold Chain in 2024. As a result, the company now benefits from an expanded reusable logistics infrastructure that includes three global Centres of Excellence and a network of 21 hubs across 11 European countries, significantly strengthening its ability to support reusable pharmaceutical cold chain programmes throughout the region.
