EGYPTAIR, Changi Airport Group and Sydney Airport are moving ahead with plans for a new air service linking Cairo, Singapore and Sydney from early 2027, subject to the necessary regulatory approvals.

The proposed route would establish the first direct connection to North Africa from both Singapore and Australia, strengthening air connectivity between the three regions. Egypt was identified as the largest African market without a direct connection for both Singapore and Australia in 2025, based on point-to-point passenger traffic.

The planned service is expected to offer more than an additional travel option. The three partners say the connection would support closer economic and cultural exchanges between Egypt, Singapore and Australia while giving passengers improved access to each market.

The route would bring together three major international cities, each offering a distinct mix of business, tourism and cultural opportunities.

In Cairo, travellers would have access to Egypt’s major cultural and historical attractions, including the Pyramids of Giza, the Grand Egyptian Museum and Nile River cruises. The connection would also provide access to leisure destinations such as Hurghada, Sharm El-Sheikh and Al-Alamain.

In Singapore, passengers would find a combination of dense urban development and nature, from the city’s iconic Marina Bay skyline to the award-winning Gardens by the Bay.

Sydney, meanwhile, would offer its internationally recognised landmarks, including the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge, alongside a major business and cultural environment.

EGYPTAIR targets Airbus A350-900 for the route

EGYPTAIR plans to operate the proposed service with its Airbus A350-900, an aircraft that would also support onward connections through the airline’s wider network.

Amr Adawy, Vice President Commercial at EGYPTAIR AIRLINES, said the airline is pleased to be exploring new connectivity between Cairo, Singapore Changi Airport and Sydney Airport.

He said the prospective services would reinforce EGYPTAIR’s position in the Asia-Pacific market, while giving passengers convenient access to Egypt and seamless onward connections throughout its network in Africa, Europe and the Middle East.

Adawy also linked the plans to EGYPTAIR’s broader fleet and network strategy. As the airline continues to expand its network and modernize its fleet, he said the potential introduction of the services, supported by the state-of-the-art Airbus A350-900, would give passengers greater choice, improved connectivity and an enhanced travel experience.

Changi sees wider Asia-Pacific connectivity opportunities

Lim Ching Kiat, Executive Vice President, Air Hub and Cargo Development at Changi Airport Group, welcomed EGYPTAIR’s plans to connect Cairo, Singapore and Sydney through the new service.

He said Changi’s extensive regional network would allow travellers from Egypt and Australia to gain seamless access to destinations across Southeast Asia and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

At the same time, passengers travelling from Singapore and elsewhere in the region would benefit from more convenient access to Cairo, along with onward connections across Africa and beyond.

Changi Airport Group said it looks forward to welcoming EGYPTAIR to Changi and supporting the successful launch of the proposed service.

Sydney Airport highlights new access to Africa

Greg Botham, Chief Aviation Officer at Sydney Airport, described the planned route as an important development for the airport and passengers travelling between Australia, Singapore and Egypt.

According to Botham, the new connection would provide direct access to one of Africa’s most important hubs, while creating another link between the three markets.

Sydney Airport said it looks forward to working with EGYPTAIR and Changi Airport Group to support the successful launch of the new route.

For now, the Cairo-Singapore-Sydney service remains subject to regulatory approvals, with the partners targeting early 2027 for its introduction.
