Lufthansa Cargo expands add-on services with new “Emergency” option

Lufthansa Cargo is expanding its modular portfolio of individually bookable additional services with the introduction of “Emergency”, a new option designed for shipments where speed, priority and reliable handling are critical throughout the entire transport journey.

The service is intended for both planned and unexpected shipments requiring the highest level of transport priority. Typical applications include urgently required spare parts and machinery, as well as life-saving pharmaceuticals and medical samples, where reliable transportation and guaranteed uplift are essential.

Available across the Lufthansa Group network at more than 200 stations worldwide, the Emergency service provides customers with the highest transport priority. It can also be booked at short notice, up to the applicable Latest Acceptance Time (LAT), while customers can make use of the maximum cargo capacity available on the booked flight.

24/7 monitoring and dedicated support

Shipments booked under the Emergency service are clearly identified and receive enhanced monitoring throughout the entire transport chain. Additional dedicated monitoring is carried out at Lufthansa Cargo’s hubs in Frankfurt, Munich and Vienna.

At Frankfurt Airport, Emergency shipments are handled around the clock through the time:matters Courier Terminal in Cargo City North. The terminal’s direct apron access, combined with dedicated handling procedures, enables particularly short transfer routes and supports rapid, prioritized processing.

Lufthansa Cargo is also providing dedicated customer support around the clock in both English and German. The 24/7 customer service team acts as a single point of contact during the shipment’s journey and proactively monitors its progress.

This approach is designed to identify potential irregularities at an early stage and allow corrective measures to be taken when required. Lufthansa Cargo’s eTracking service is likewise available 24/7 through both its web platform and mobile app.

Short-notice bookings available online

Customers can book the Emergency Add-on Service directly through Lufthansa Cargo’s eBooking platform, subject to available capacity.

Where suitable capacity cannot be found online, the 24/7 Customer Service team and the local Sales representative can help customers identify an appropriate transportation solution and arrange the booking.

Emergency is available with the General Cargo, Dangerous Goods, Passive Temp Support and Vulnerables products, in combination with the td.Flash and td.Zoom speed options.

The service also comes with a Money-back Guarantee. If the shipment is not available for collection within six hours of the specified Time of Availability, the guarantee applies in accordance with the relevant terms and conditions.

Six add-on services within Lufthansa Cargo’s modular portfolio

The launch of Emergency further expands Lufthansa Cargo’s modular approach to additional services. Customers can complement their bookings with services selected according to the product, speed and routing requirements of an individual shipment.

The portfolio now comprises six Add-on Services:

  • Emergency, for highly critical shipments requiring the highest transport priority.

  • Sustainable Choice, supporting more sustainable transportation.

  • Personal Supervision, providing personal accompaniment for valuable art shipments.

  • smartULD, offering real-time information for temperature-sensitive shipments.

  • toDoor, enabling direct delivery to the recipient’s bonded warehouse.

  • Insurance, providing additional insurance coverage.

By integrating these Add-on Services directly into the digital booking process, Lufthansa Cargo aims to make supplementary services easier to access while giving customers greater transparency regarding availability and pricing.
