Lufthansa has resumed its Frankfurt-Riyadh service, operating three weekly A340 flights from September 10, 2026, with cargo capacity fully utilised from the very first day of renewed operations.
The Lufthansa Group said the gradual return of flights to the Middle East followed a comprehensive assessment of the security and safety situation. The group continues to monitor developments across the region and remains in close contact with the relevant authorities.
Cargo demand has been particularly strong on the revived Riyadh connection. Shipments originating in the Saudi capital include machinery, aircraft parts, pharmaceuticals and computer equipment, with Lufthansa’s network connecting these consignments onward to destinations across Europe, the Americas and Africa.
According to Lufthansa, the immediate response from cargo customers underlines the importance of dependable international connections. The airline noted that the available cargo capacity was already fully utilised on the first day of the renewed service.
The Frankfurt-Riyadh route currently operates three times a week. Meanwhile, ITA Airways is scheduled to restart its Rome Fiumicino-Riyadh service on September 15, 2026.
The latest resumption forms part of a broader Lufthansa Group return to selected Middle Eastern markets. Eurowings had already resumed flights to Beirut on July 1, while Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa are scheduled to restart services between Vienna and Amman from October 2. Lufthansa’s Frankfurt-Amman service is also scheduled to return with daily flights from October 25.
The Lufthansa Group stressed that schedules remain subject to change, particularly given the rapidly evolving situation in the region. Any changes affecting individual airlines will be communicated accordingly.
