Samsara is expanding its relationship with professional drivers through the launch of Samsara Driver Perks, a free benefits program offering discounts and special offers from more than 50 brands.
The program officially became available to professional drivers in the U.S. on Thursday, Sept. 10. It provides access to offers across a range of categories, including food and beverage, fitness, wellness, travel and personal development. Drivers can access the benefits through the Samsara Driver App, a dedicated web link or a QR code distributed by participating organizations.
There is no cost for drivers or the fleets they work for. Samsara also said it intends to extend Driver Perks to markets outside the U.S. as the program develops.
The initial list of participating brands includes Truck Parking Club, Farmers Insurance, A-Premium Auto Parts, 24 Hour Fitness, Crunch Fitness, Audible, BetterHelp and BetterSleep.
Each participating brand sets its own terms for discounts and offers. Drivers redeem those benefits directly with the participating companies rather than through Samsara.
The range of offers covers both expenses connected to driving and activities that drivers can enjoy away from work. Truck Parking Club and A-Premium Auto Parts are particularly relevant to life on the road, while fitness, wellness and entertainment services provide benefits that can be used outside working hours.
Driver Perks is available to long-haul truck drivers, last-mile delivery drivers and passenger transit workers who are part of Samsara’s network. The program therefore extends beyond traditional trucking, although many of the available offers are especially relevant to drivers who spend long periods on the road.
Some of the benefits are designed around challenges faced specifically by professional drivers. Truck Parking Club, for example, gives drivers access to reservable truck parking locations. The company said it currently has more than 6,500 reservable parking locations across all 50 states.
“Drivers lose hours every week looking for parking,” Evan Shelley, co-founder and CEO of Truck Parking Club, said in the program announcement. “We give drivers a new option to park safely, legally and efficiently.”
Samsara said the program was shaped in part by feedback from professional drivers through its Driver Council, an advisory board that provides input on the company’s products. The company also surveyed drivers across its network to identify the products and services they would value most.
Fitness and wellness emerged as the category attracting the greatest level of interest, with 64% of drivers selecting it. Food and beverage came next at 58%, while 51% said learning and personal development were areas they were interested in.
According to Samsara, those survey findings helped guide the selection of offers included in Driver Perks.
Jerome Jolly, a driver at Ryan Logistics who has more than 40 years of driving experience, said the variety of available offers was one of the program’s strongest attractions.
“I know drivers with all kinds of interests and can see them getting a lot out of it,” Jolly said in a statement. “It’s something I’ll use to save money on what I already buy and try a few new things.”
Samsara’s primary business is providing fleet technology, with tools designed to help companies manage vehicles, equipment and workers. Drivers are among the people who use that technology on a daily basis.
With Driver Perks, Samsara is extending that relationship beyond the operational side of fleet management. The program gives drivers access to benefits they can use even when they are away from work.
“We’ve spent more than a decade building technology to help keep drivers safe and efficient on the road,” Johan Land, chief product officer at Samsara, said in a statement. “Driver Perks is about recognizing them for that work in a way that’s practical and real.”
Fleets can also make the program available to their drivers at no cost. This gives carriers another benefit they can offer without having to develop and manage a rewards program of their own.
Drivers do not need to pay for access, and fleets do not have to purchase an additional service to provide the offers. Samsara said Driver Perks will continue to evolve as it gathers more feedback from drivers and brings additional brands into the program.
Lon Ingram, director of safety and risk management at All Aboard America, said Driver Perks provides fleets with another way to show support for their drivers.
“Our drivers carry the most precious cargo there is: people,” Ingram said in a statement. “They put so much into their work every day, and they deserve to feel supported and recognized.”
Samsara plans to add more brands and offers to Driver Perks over time. The company also intends to expand the program beyond the U.S.
Why this matters
Samsara is moving beyond its traditional fleet technology offering by providing drivers with benefits they can use outside their professional activities. The initiative gives the company another way to maintain a direct connection with drivers, who are among the daily users of its technology.
The launch also reflects a broader effort among fleet technology providers to strengthen relationships with drivers rather than focusing exclusively on the fleets purchasing their software.
For carriers, Driver Perks represents an additional benefit they can provide at no cost, without the need to build, finance or manage a separate rewards program for their drivers.
