Turkish shipowner Besiktas is once again attracting attention in the tanker market after what brokers are describing as a highly successful short-term asset play involving an MR product tanker.
According to market sources, the company is selling the 50,000 dwt tanker Antalya for around $40 million. The vessel, built in 2016 at South Korea’s SPP Shipbuilding yard, was purchased by Besiktas only last October for approximately $33 million, when it was still trading under the name PTI Nile.
The transaction would represent a sizeable gain for the Turkish owner in less than a year, highlighting the continued strength of the tanker resale market for modern product carriers.
The sale also includes an attached time charter fixed at $18,750 per day running through November 2026, adding further value to the deal. The vessel’s special survey and dry dock are scheduled before the end of July.
Besiktas has been increasingly active in the tanker S&P market in recent months. The company was also recently identified as the buyer of three MR tankers previously sold by Scorpio Tankers, the company led by shipping executive Emanuele Lauro.
