The Baltic Exchange has appointed maritime executive Sigrid Teig as its new deputy CEO, with the industry veteran set to become the organisation’s first female chief executive next year.
Teig will join the Baltic Exchange later in 2026 following a leadership succession process that started in October 2025. She will work with current chief executive Mark Jackson as the organization prepares for the transition.
Jackson will remain head of the Baltic Exchange but will also take on a broader role around strategic initiatives and new product development, the company said.
Teig comes to the organization with a wealth of experience in maritime technology and customer management. Most recently, she was executive managing director for Singapore and executive vice-president of customer success for DA-Desk and PortLog at maritime digital solutions provider Marcura.
She has worked at the intersection of shipping, digital solutions and data and that experience is expected to support the Baltic Exchange as the maritime industry continues to navigate market volatility and changing trading conditions.
“It’s an honor to have joined the Baltic Exchange at such a crucial time for the global maritime sector,” Teig said. She underlined the increasing demand for reliable benchmarking data to enhance transparency and aid decision-making throughout the shipping industry.
Her appointment represents an important leadership milestone for the Baltic Exchange and comes at a time when demand for trusted market information and data-led decision-making is growing across global shipping markets.
Teig is slated to take over as CEO in 2027 and the organization is gearing up for a new chapter, but with Jackson’s continued involvement in its strategic development providing continuity.
