After five weeks of growth, the global air freight market is showing a clear slowdown. The latest data indicates a 7% decrease in tonnages, a direct consequence of the end of Valentine’s Day shipments and the commercial slowdown preceding the Lunar New Year.
All regions were affected, with a particularly sharp decline in Latin America, where floral flows have drastically decreased. Africa also recorded a moderate decline, illustrating the dependence of certain markets on seasonal shipments.
Despite this correction, the volumes remain higher than last year, which shows that structural demand remains strong. For airlines and forwarders, the priority now becomes the rapid adjustment of capacity in order to preserve margins during a market transition phase.
