Vijayawada, Aug. 14, 2025 — Papers were scattered across the long wooden table, some curling at the edges, a map half-covered by coffee mugs. Thick red marker lines ran from port to port, through rail junctions and airport hubs, like veins on a chart.
The state’s announcement came quickly, almost casually: a new logistics corporation, set to pull together everything — ports, inland waterways, road corridors, even shipyards. The target isn’t just faster movement of goods. It’s about building an ecosystem where ships can be designed, built, and sent to sea without leaving the state’s borders.
Three coastal sites are already earmarked. Machilipatnam. Mulapeta. Chinaganjam. Old fishing towns that could soon be ringed with cranes and dry docks. Around them, satellite towns and industrial parks are planned.
In the yard outside, two engineers argued over a set of blueprints propped on the hood of a jeep. A row of excavators sat idle, paint still fresh, waiting for their first job. The heat shimmered off the ground. It didn’t feel like planning anymore — it felt like the work had already begun.
