Andhra Pradesh has taken a major step toward transforming its logistics landscape with the launch of a state-owned logistics corporation, designed to coordinate ports, highways, airports, rail terminals, and even helipads under one umbrella.

The new entity reflects a growing recognition that fragmented planning slows progress. By consolidating logistics oversight, the government aims to improve coordination, reduce delays, and position the state as a logistics gateway within India.

“We needed a mechanism that links every part of the supply chain,” said Ram Prasad Reddy, Secretary for Transport and Infrastructure. “This corporation allows us to plan holistically and act faster.”

Although Andhra Pradesh already benefits from its coastal access and strong rail links, past development was often managed by separate agencies, leading to duplication and inefficiencies. This new corporation is meant to fix that by providing a single platform for decision-making.

Planned initiatives include digital cargo tracking, centralized permissions for freight corridors, and integrated multimodal hubs. Authorities also confirmed that private sector partners will be invited to co-develop logistics parks and storage terminals through long-term partnerships.

“What sets this effort apart is the strategic intent behind it,” noted Meera Nair, a supply chain advisor based in Hyderabad. “It’s not about adding more roads or ports—it’s about connecting them smarter.”

The project fits squarely within India’s national logistics policy, which calls for unified planning and multimodal integration across states. Andhra Pradesh is one of the first to act decisively on that front, and other regions are closely watching the model.

The corporation officially began operations last week, and its first mandate includes mapping out priority corridors for development, particularly along the Visakhapatnam-Chennai industrial belt.

With rising trade flows and supply chain complexity across India, the timing could hardly be better.
