Avianca Cargo has introduced a new weekly freighter service between Bogota and Caracas, restoring dedicated all-cargo capacity on a route that is regaining strategic relevance in Latin American logistics.
The new Airbus A330F operation began on March 7 and offers up to 60 tonnes of weekly capacity per flight. That dedicated freighter uplift is in addition to the seven tonnes of weekly bellyhold cargo already available on Avianca passenger services between the two capitals.
Chief executive Diogo Elías said the launch strengthens cargo flows between Colombia and Venezuela and expands logistics options across the region. He added that the company plans to gradually increase capacity in line with market demand.
The freighter service comes shortly after Avianca resumed direct passenger flights between Bogota and Caracas in February, following a long suspension. That return formed part of a broader reopening of aviation links after political change in Venezuela and the end of Nicolás Maduro’s rule earlier this year.
Avianca Cargo, which combines freighter capacity with belly space across more than 70 destinations in Latin America, the US and Europe, has also been active elsewhere in the region. Earlier this year, it reported a 6% rise in flower shipments to the US for Valentine’s Day, reaching more than 19,000 tonnes — its highest volume in five years. During the 22-day season, the airline operated nearly 320 cargo flights from Colombia and Ecuador to Miami and Los Angeles.
