The British International Freight Association (BIFA) has appointed Steve Murray as regional representative for its newly established Central Region, a move aimed at strengthening engagement with members across the Midlands and surrounding areas.
The newly defined region includes logistics companies located in counties north of London and extends geographically from Nottingham in the north, Birmingham in the west, and Peterborough in the east.
BIFA said Murray brings extensive industry experience, having held senior leadership roles overseeing multi-country and multi-functional teams across the logistics and supply chain sector.
Most recently he worked with FedEx Logistics, the freight forwarding arm of FedEx. Earlier in his career, he held several senior roles within International Supply Chain (ISC), part of DHL, and also worked for EXEL.
According to Steve Parker, director general of BIFA, the appointment aligns with the association’s strategy to raise its profile among members while improving communication and support across the UK.
Parker noted that Murray’s multimodal supply chain expertise will provide valuable insight for logistics companies operating within the new region.
The appointment also completes BIFA’s network of six regional representatives, who act as the association’s “eyes and ears” across the country and maintain direct contact with freight forwarding companies at a local level.
Separately, BIFA recently confirmed the creation of a new working group focused on artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.
The initiative reflects growing interest among members in understanding how AI may impact freight forwarding operations, including efficiency improvements, operational risks, cybersecurity concerns and data governance challenges.
