Cargo Air has ordered two sets of high-pressure turbine (HPT) blade Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA) components for CFM56-7B engines, reinforcing its long-term relationship with aviation components specialist Chromalloy.

The deal includes two sets of Chromalloy’s CFM56-7B HPT Blade PMA parts for delivery in 2027 and 2028, the company said in a statement. The order will increase the Bulgarian airline’s Boeing 737 cargo business and offer an additional option to manage future engine maintenance costs.

Based in Sofia, Bulgaria, Cargo Air flies a fleet of Boeing 737 freighters. The latest deal builds on a long-standing commercial and technical relationship with the company having used Chromalloy’s solutions on its B737-300/400 fleet for the past decade.

The CFM56-7B is one of the most common engines on the Boeing 737 Next Generation family and one of the most widely operated engines in the narrowbody aircraft segment. The high pressure turbine blades are operating in one of the hottest areas of the engine, where the components are exposed to very high temperatures.

The newest member of the Chromalloy line is designed to meet these operating requirements. The company manufactures its CFM56-5B/7B HPT blades internally, overseeing the whole production process from casting, machining to coating. The company controls the entire manufacturing process in-house, making sure that its parts meet consistent quality standards from beginning to end.

In October 2025, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved the CFM56-5B/7B HPT Blade PMA, a key regulatory milestone.

Chromalloy is the largest independent provider of turbine engine hot section components and high pressure turbine blades, providing its manufacturing and repair expertise as options for operators that want to control maintenance costs without sacrificing component quality.

“We are pleased to continue our ongoing relationship with the Bulgarian carrier,” said Russ Shelton, Executive Vise President, Business Development for Chromalloy.

“We have been using Chromalloy solutions on our B737-300/400 fleet for ten years and are proud to continue our partnership with Cargo Air. “This order demonstrates the value Chromalloy PMA and repair solutions bring to cargo operators,” said Shelton.

Cargo Air also pointed out the financial and operational benefits that are expected from the deal. “We’re excited about the partnership. “The components will support its Boeing 737 fleet and open opportunities for significant savings on engine maintenance in the future, said Angel Petrov, shareholder and Commercial Director of the airline.

“We are very pleased to partner with Chromalloy to support our B737 fleet while unlocking significant engine maintenance savings in the future,” said Petrov.

The agreement will help drive the use of independently manufactured and certified engine parts in the cargo aviation industry, where operators continue to rank managing maintenance costs and ensuring fleet availability as a top priority.
