China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) has strongly criticized the United States’ Section 301 investigation into China’s maritime, logistics, and shipbuilding industries. This investigation, which targets China’s growth in these sectors, has sparked concerns of unfair trade practices and protectionism, according to Chinese officials.
In a statement, MOFCOM denounced the U.S. investigation, calling it an attempt to undermine China’s industrial development under the pretext of addressing alleged unfair trade practices. The ministry emphasized that China’s rise in the shipbuilding and maritime industries was not based on non-market activities but on technological innovation, industrial advancement, and a highly skilled workforce.
MOFCOM also rejected accusations that China’s growing maritime and shipbuilding sectors had caused harm to U.S. industries. The ministry noted that before China’s significant growth in the shipbuilding sector, the U.S. had already experienced a noticeable decline in its own market share. China affirmed its stance of promoting fair competition and maintaining an open market environment, both domestically and internationally.
China’s shipbuilding industry remains a global leader, contributing to the expansion of international trade and logistics. In response to the U.S. action, China has vowed to protect its legitimate interests and uphold international trade standards. The government has urged the U.S. to respect multilateral trade agreements and avoid imposing its internal trade issues onto global markets.
