East-West Gate (EWG), Europe’s largest intermodal terminal, is taking a transformative step in bridging academia and logistics by investing HUF 25 million in the University of Miskolc’s Logistics Institute. This strategic collaboration aims to foster innovation, enhance education, and build a skilled workforce for the evolving logistics industry.

Investment in Education and Research

On December 11, 2024, EWG unveiled a state-of-the-art logistics laboratory at the University of Miskolc. The facility, equipped with advanced tools and technologies, will:

  • Provide hands-on training for students to develop practical logistics skills.
  • Support research into innovative logistics solutions, including AI-driven processes.
  • Strengthen ties between academic theory and real-world logistics applications.

This initiative is part of a broader partnership between EWG and the University of Miskolc, established in April 2024, designed to promote collaboration in education and logistics advancements.

EWG’s Commitment to Innovation

Located in Fényeslitke, Hungary, EWG is renowned for operating Europe’s most advanced intermodal terminal. Key features of the facility include:

  • Remote-Controlled Cranes: Enhancing operational efficiency and precision.
  • 3D Digital Twin Technology: Allowing real-time monitoring and management of logistics operations.
  • Sustainability Focus: EWG integrates eco-friendly practices to minimize environmental impact.

Strategic Goals of the Initiative

EWG’s investment aligns with its vision to:

  1. Strengthen Industry-Academia Partnerships: Ensure logistics education is aligned with industry needs.
  2. Promote Innovation: Enable cutting-edge research to drive advancements in logistics technologies.
  3. Prepare a Skilled Workforce: Equip students with the expertise required to excel in the dynamic logistics sector.

The Future of Logistics Through Education

Miclós Garamvölgyi, CEO of East-West Gate, emphasized the importance of investing in education to ensure the logistics sector remains competitive and innovative. The logistics laboratory at the University of Miskolc will serve as a hub for nurturing talent, fostering creativity, and driving technological progress in the industry.

By empowering future professionals with practical skills and exposure to advanced technologies, EWG is paving the way for a more resilient and innovative logistics ecosystem.
