EXCLUSIVE: AI and Robotics Revolutionize Global Logistics Operations

By Eva Richardson

March 3, 2025 – The global logistics industry is undergoing a seismic shift as AI-powered automation and robotics take center stage in warehousing, last-mile delivery, and supply chain optimization. With companies like Amazon, Relay, and Agility Robotics leading the charge, logistics firms worldwide are racing to integrate cutting-edge technology to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and meet rising e-commerce demand.

Amazon’s Bold AI and Robotics Investment

Amazon is making an unprecedented multi-billion-dollar push into AI-driven logistics, planning to spend $25 billion on robotics-led fulfillment centers in 2025 alone. The company aims to slash operational costs while maintaining its competitive edge against fast-growing rivals such as Temu and TikTok Shop.

“This is not just about automation—it’s about revolutionizing logistics from the ground up,” said Marc Davidson, Amazon’s Senior VP of Logistics, in an exclusive statement to The Logistic News. “AI-powered fulfillment centers are already showing a 25% cost reduction, and we expect even greater savings as adoption scales.”

Relay Raises $35 Million to Disrupt Home Delivery Giants

Meanwhile, London-based Relay, an AI-driven e-commerce delivery startup, has secured $35 million in funding to challenge dominant logistics players like DPD and Evri. With plans to launch eight new regional distribution hubs across the UK, Relay’s machine-learning algorithms are designed to optimize last-mile delivery routes, reducing delays and cutting costs for online retailers.

Relay’s expansion reflects a broader industry trend toward data-driven logistics, where real-time AI analytics help predict delivery bottlenecks before they occur. “AI-driven predictive logistics will redefine how packages move globally,” noted John Peterson, CEO of Global Freight Solutions.

Humanoid Robots Enter the Warehouse Workforce

In a groundbreaking development, humanoid robots are now performing warehouse tasks at Spanx’s Flowery Branch, Georgia facility. Developed by Agility Robotics, the robots—nicknamed Digit—are designed to work alongside human employees, moving inventory and handling repetitive tasks.

This marks a major milestone in robotics, bridging the gap between fully automated conveyor systems and human labor. Boston Dynamics, Nvidia, and OpenAI are all betting on AI-powered humanoid robots to play a critical role in logistics, manufacturing, and even urban delivery services within the next five years.

The Future of AI in Logistics: Challenges & Opportunities

While AI and automation promise unparalleled efficiency, challenges remain:

  • High capital investment costs for AI-driven fulfillment centers.
  • Ethical concerns over job displacement as automation replaces human workers.
  • Security risks as cyber threats evolve to target AI-powered logistics systems.

Despite these challenges, industry leaders remain confident that AI-driven logistics will shape the future of global supply chains. “Companies that fail to embrace AI will struggle to compete,” warned Glyn Hughes, Director General of The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA).

What’s Next?

As AI, robotics, and machine learning continue to evolve, logistics firms must adapt to this fast-changing landscape or risk being left behind. With massive AI-driven investments from Amazon and emerging disruptors like Relay, the next decade will define a new era of smart logistics.
