Täby Air Maintenance has secured approval from the Federal Aviation Administration for the Supplemental Type Certificate covering its Saab 2000 freighter conversion.
The Swedish MRO and aircraft conversion specialist announced the milestone in a LinkedIn post on 24 March.
With FAA approval now in place, TAM said it can offer enhanced cargo solutions for the Saab 2000 that meet US regulatory requirements while expanding its reach in the aviation market.
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency approved the same STC in December. The new FAA approval means the converted aircraft can now be sold into the US market as well as across Europe.
TAM began converting the high-speed regional turboprop in January 2022 and completed its maiden flight in March 2023, after encountering delays during the conversion process.
The Saab 2000 cargo conversion has been specifically designed for express freight, e-commerce distribution and time-sensitive logistics networks. It offers total cargo volume of 55.4 cubic metres, a floor loading limit of 730 kg and a maximum payload of 6,622 kg.
For operations under US Federal Aviation Regulations Part 135, the maximum payload is limited to 3,402 kg, or 7,500 lbs.
The conversion includes an optimised cargo hold with a strengthened carbon fibre floor structure, an integrated roller ball cargo loading system and LED lighting to improve brightness and reliability in the cargo bay.
The Saab 2000 STC builds on TAM’s earlier Saab 340 conversion, which has already been widely adopted by regional cargo operators around the world.
