South Korean shipping giant HMM (Hyundai Merchant Marine) has recently deployed its newest eco-friendly vessel, the HMM Nuri, a 24,000-TEU container ship powered by dual-fuel engines. The ship, one of the largest in the world, signifies HMM’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions across its global routes. Utilizing state-of-the-art energy efficiency technologies, the vessel can operate on either liquefied natural gas (LNG) or conventional fuel, allowing for lower carbon emissions compared to traditional cargo ships.
The HMM Nuri has already completed its maiden voyage from Busan, South Korea, to Rotterdam, and will be a core part of HMM’s global fleet. This move toward sustainability aligns with HMM’s recent commitment to reaching net-zero emissions by 2050, a goal that the company aims to achieve by gradually integrating alternative-fuel vessels and implementing eco-friendly practices across its operations. This development places HMM at the forefront of sustainable maritime shipping, setting a high standard for eco-conscious practices in the industry.
