A.P. Moller – Maersk has officially launched its first-ever warehouse in France, located in Denain, Northern France. This milestone marks a significant expansion of Maersk’s contract logistics capabilities in Europe, aligning with its mission to deliver integrated supply chain solutions to customers across the continent.

Strategic Location for Maximum Connectivity

The new warehouse, spanning 75,000 square meters, is strategically located in the Hauts-de-France region near Lille, a hub for logistics activity. Key advantages of the location include:

  • Proximity to Major Cities: Within easy reach of Brussels (109 km) and Paris (198 km).
  • Exceptional Connectivity: Positioned at the junction of the A2 and A21 motorways, with direct rail links and access to 12 motorways.
  • Rich Labor Pool: Located in a densely populated logistics employment zone, with nearly 500,000 people within a 30-minute radius.

Warehouse Specifications and Sustainability

Built within the GLP Park Denain complex, the facility boasts:

  • State-of-the-Art Design: 85 doors, 11.4-meter beam height, 35-meter truck yard, and 5 t/m² floor load capacity to handle heavy loads efficiently.
  • Sustainability Certified: The facility holds a BREEAM Very Good certification, emphasizing its eco-friendly design and operational efficiency.

Operational Focus

The Denain warehouse will serve as a critical hub for Maersk’s contract logistics and e-commerce fulfillment services. It will primarily support a leading global e-commerce company, enabling:

  • Faster delivery times.
  • Seamless distribution across France and neighboring markets.
  • Tailored supply chain solutions that enhance end-customer experiences.

With this facility, Maersk expands its warehousing and distribution presence to 15 European countries, underlining its commitment to offering comprehensive logistics services.

Leadership Perspective

Michele Cohonner, Regional Head of Maersk Contract Logistics in Europe, remarked:
“The launch of this facility is a significant milestone for Maersk in France. It demonstrates our commitment to providing cutting-edge contract logistics solutions in a key European market.”

Strengthening Maersk’s Integrator Strategy

The Denain warehouse reflects Maersk’s strategy to evolve from a traditional shipping company into an end-to-end logistics integrator, providing comprehensive supply chain solutions. By combining warehousing, distribution, and transportation under one umbrella, Maersk is well-positioned to meet the growing demands of e-commerce and omnichannel retail.

Future Implications

This facility is set to play a pivotal role in bolstering Maersk’s ability to serve clients with integrated logistics solutions while reducing environmental impact. Its strategic location and advanced capabilities will enable Maersk to efficiently connect customers to European and global markets.
