In a significant logistics achievement, AsstrA-Associated Traffic AG has successfully completed the first phase of transporting OSBL (Outside Battery Limits) modules for INEOS Project ONE, a groundbreaking petrochemical investment at the Port of Antwerp, Belgium. This marks a critical step in the construction of Europe’s largest ethane cracker, reinforcing AsstrA’s role as a key player in complex industrial logistics.
The Scope of a High-Stakes Logistics Operation
INEOS Project ONE represents the most substantial investment in the European chemical industry in 25 years, aiming to create the continent’s most sustainable ethane cracker. AsstrA’s involvement is pivotal in ensuring the seamless transportation of nearly 100 oversized modules from global manufacturing hubs to Antwerp.
The first shipment, executed in September 2024, involved:
- Eight massive OSBL modules transported from Bauan, Philippines to Belgium.
- Multimodal logistics strategies, navigating through the Cape of Good Hope to optimize transit.
- Precise handling of oversized units, measuring up to 39 x 12 x 11 meters, ensuring safety and structural integrity throughout the journey.
A Logistics Feat in Engineering & Coordination
With each module contributing to the ethane cracker’s structural framework, AsstrA’s logistics team meticulously coordinated: ✔ Vessel selection and route optimization, mitigating potential risks in global shipping lanes.
✔ Advanced loading and securing techniques, preventing in-transit damage.
✔ Port logistics and discharge operations, ensuring smooth handling upon arrival in Antwerp.
Future Outlook: A Complex Supply Chain Until 2025
This first phase is only the beginning. The remaining modules—comprising over 230,000 cubic meters of cargo—are scheduled for delivery through Q2 2025. AsstrA remains committed to executing monthly shipments, reinforcing INEOS’s vision for a cutting-edge, low-carbon chemical infrastructure.
📢 With industrial logistics evolving rapidly, projects like INEOS Project ONE demonstrate the vital role of specialized freight solutions in global trade and infrastructure.
