Operations at the Port of Salalah have been suspended following an attack that damaged fuel storage tanks within the port area, forcing authorities and operators to halt activity until further notice.
Videos circulating after the incident showed tanks on fire close to the container terminal. Maritime security specialists said it remains unclear whether the tanks were directly targeted or hit by debris from intercepted drones.
According to a customer advisory relayed by GAC, all terminal operations were suspended as of 17:00 GST. Maersk also confirmed that activity at its Salalah terminal had been paused and that staff were following evacuation procedures.
The port is strategically important in regional shipping and also serves as the hub for APM Terminals in Salalah, used by Maersk and its Gemini Cooperation partner Hapag-Lloyd.
The shutdown adds further strain to regional maritime logistics at a time when vessel movements, routing decisions and cargo planning are already under severe pressure.
