The Tanger Med port complex recorded another year of strong growth in 2025, confirming its position as one of the most important maritime gateways linking Europe, Africa and global trade routes.
According to figures released by Tanger Med Port Authority (TMPA) — the entity responsible for managing Tanger Med 1, Tanger Med 2 and the passenger and ro-ro terminals — activity expanded across several segments during the year.
For the first time, container throughput exceeded 11 million TEUs, marking an increase of 8.4% compared with the previous year.
Cargo activity overall also reached a significant level. The port handled 161 million tonnes of goods in 2025, reflecting the continued expansion of logistics flows through northern Morocco.
Growth was particularly visible in liquid bulk traffic, which rose 13% to reach 8.6 million tonnes.
Road transport linked to port activity also showed steady momentum.
TIR truck traffic climbed by 3.6%, totaling 535,203 units, highlighting the sustained exchange of goods between Morocco and European markets.
Not all segments followed the same trend, however.
Solid bulk volumes declined by 11%, totaling 522,493 tonnes, while vehicle traffic fell by 12%, with 526,862 units handled during the year.
Despite these mixed operational trends, financial indicators moved upward.
TMPA reported revenue of 4.43 billion Moroccan dirhams, compared with 4.01 billion dirhams in the previous year, representing an increase of 10.3%.
Operating profitability also improved.
EBITDA reached 3.21 billion dirhams, up from 2.95 billion dirhams a year earlier, a rise of 8.6%.
At the bottom line, the port authority posted net profit of 1.82 billion dirhams, compared with 1.48 billion dirhams the previous year, representing growth of 22.3%.
The results further strengthen Tanger Med’s position as a major Mediterranean and African logistics hub, supporting maritime connections between Europe, Africa and global shipping networks.
