Saudi Arabia has introduced temporary regulatory relief measures for vessels operating in its territorial waters, in response to the ongoing regional tensions linked to Iran.
The country’s Transport General Authority (TGA) announced a 30-day suspension of documentation validity requirements tied to navigation licenses and work permits for marine units.
The measure applies to both Saudi-flagged and foreign vessels operating in the Kingdom’s waters in the Arabian Gulf.
According to the TGA, the suspension is conditional on maintaining safety standards, with no compromise allowed in the protection of human life or the marine environment. The authority also indicated that the measure could be extended if necessary.
The decision is intended to support the continuity of maritime operations and ensure the smooth flow of logistics activities within Saudi waters at a time when vessels may face operational constraints.
In particular, the exemption covers ships engaged in maritime operations and projects that may be unable to leave Saudi waters to complete inspections or technical requirements due to current disruptions.
