Scan Global Logistics (SGL), a rapidly expanding freight forwarder, has announced the opening of a new office in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, marking a significant step in its East African growth strategy. This development aims to capitalize on the region’s burgeoning sectors, including agriculture, mining, and infrastructure projects.

Strategic Objectives:

  • Enhanced Regional Presence: The Dar es Salaam office enables SGL to serve the increasing logistical needs of this key economic hub and strengthens its footprint in East Africa.
  • Comprehensive Service Offerings: The new branch will provide a wide range of services, including ocean and air freight, project logistics, road transportation, warehousing, customs clearance, and transit services to neighboring landlocked countries.

Leadership Insights:

Lars Syberg, Chief Executive Officer for Europe, Middle East, and Africa (excluding the Nordics) at SGL, emphasized the importance of this expansion:

“I believe the Tanzanian market has a growing need for a strong local presence, and this investment positions us better to support our overseas partners. The timing is right for SGL to establish itself here, enabling us to accommodate the significant growth we anticipate in the East African region.”

Jan Andersson, appointed as the Managing Director of the new office, highlighted the synergy with existing operations:

“Since we entered Kenya one year ago, it has become evident that many of our customers also have branches in Tanzania, presenting us with clear growth opportunities.”

Regional Economic Context:

Tanzania is experiencing significant expansion in sectors such as agriculture, mining, and infrastructure development, including roads, railways, and ports. SGL’s strategic move into Tanzania is designed to leverage these growth areas, providing efficient customs clearance and reliable last-mile services to meet the region’s evolving needs.

Future Outlook:

This expansion into Tanzania aligns with SGL’s broader strategy to strengthen its presence across East Africa. The company plans to continue building robust relationships with local businesses, governments, and NGOs, fostering trust and enhancing collaboration throughout the region.

By establishing a physical presence in Tanzania, Scan Global Logistics is well-positioned to support the region’s economic growth and meet the increasing demand for comprehensive logistics solutions.
