Seafrigo, the global expert in cold chain logistics, has officially opened its fifth warehouse in Sweden, marking a significant step forward in its strategy to strengthen operations across the Nordic region. The new 10,000-square-metre facility in Katrineholm, southwest of Stockholm, represents a major investment in sustainable, high-performance food logistics.
Inaugurated this week by President and Founder Eric Barbé, alongside Group CEO Bruno Plantaz and Chief Projects Officer Stéphane Desseigne, the site boasts 30,000 pallet positions and is equipped to support a full range of temperature-controlled services, including frozen and ambient food storage.
“This new development enables us to further enhance Seafrigo’s extensive service offering across the Nordics,” said Peter Jönsson, Managing Director of Seafrigo Sweden. “With its strategic location near major national distribution centres, we are now even better positioned to meet the precision demands of Sweden’s food supply chain.”
A Nordic Hub Built for Scale and Sustainability
The Katrineholm warehouse reflects Seafrigo’s ongoing investment in sustainable infrastructure. Certified Miljöbyggnad Silver—a top-tier environmental standard in Sweden—the site was constructed to maximize energy efficiency while minimizing emissions. Complementing this eco-friendly approach is Seafrigo’s fleet of fully electric trucks, which operate across the region in lieu of traditional diesel-powered vehicles.
With capacity to handle 100 tonnes of blast freezing per week, the facility plays a pivotal role in Seafrigo’s protein logistics operations. Meat products including beef, pork, and poultry are received daily from Swedish slaughterhouses, rapidly frozen from +2°C to -18°C before being shipped to export markets in Asia and Africa or stored for domestic distribution.
The new warehouse also supports overnight deliveries to 80% of the Nordic region, underscoring Seafrigo’s commitment to time-sensitive, high-quality service.
Cold Chain Innovation in Food Logistics
Seafrigo has built its global reputation on precision cold chain logistics for foodstuffs across four temperature zones. In the Nordics, its operations are headquartered in Helsingborg, where the company manages 3,000 specialized pallets per day and handles 600 tonnes of meat blast-freezing weekly.
The Katrineholm facility expands both capacity and reach, supporting Seafrigo’s broader goal of providing full traceability, advanced warehouse management systems, and end-to-end quality control to its international clientele.
“This facility represents a key step in the ongoing evolution of Seafrigo’s logistics network,” added Magnus Mohlin, Seafrigo Nordics Director. “It’s not just a warehouse—it’s a cornerstone for cold chain innovation and sustainable food distribution in northern Europe.”
Meeting the Needs of Retailers and Exporters
Strategically located near Sweden’s major food retail distribution centres, the new facility enables Seafrigo to offer flexible, responsive logistics to both domestic retailers and global exporters. This includes value-added services such as meat storage, pre-export blast freezing, and regional distribution to retail hubs.
With the Nordic region’s demand for temperature-sensitive logistics on the rise, Seafrigo’s investment signals both confidence and leadership in the future of cold chain operations.
Why It Matters:
Seafrigo’s expansion in Sweden is more than a regional play—it reflects the rising importance of cold chain infrastructure in global food supply chains, and the increasing demand for sustainable, tech-enabled, and precision-driven logistics in perishable goods transport.
