The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) has confirmed that Glyn Hughes will step down from his role as director general, ending a five-year tenure that began with his appointment in February 2021.

TIACA said it is now searching for a successor, though it has not announced a specific departure date. In a webinar, Hughes indicated he may continue working with TIACA in another capacity, potentially supporting the next generation of industry leaders, and noted that he does not expect to reappear at another organization.

Hughes described his time at TIACA as “amazing,” adding that time had “flown by.” He said he would support the board as it launches the search and assist the incoming director general for as long as needed to ensure a smooth handover.

Before joining TIACA, Hughes spent six years as IATA’s global head of cargo beginning in 2014 and has worked in the air cargo industry for 44 years.

TIACA chair Roos Bakker thanked Hughes and said the next director general will inherit a strong platform and an engaged global community. Bakker said the association is seeking a leader who can execute TIACA’s strategy with discipline, strengthen partnerships and deliver sustainable growth at a time of industry transformation. The director general role operates under the board, overseeing the association’s affairs and leading strategic execution, financial and operational reporting, and the development of commercial plans to ensure TIACA remains relevant and financially sustainable.
