The transpacific container market is undergoing a major reshaping with a total capacity estimated at 5.2 million TEUs, a decrease of approximately 3% compared to the previous year. Behind this overall figure lies a strategic redistribution among shipowners, with some reducing their presence while others strengthen their positions.
Maersk and CMA CGM have notably reduced their deployments, while ONE and MSC continue a targeted expansion to consolidate their market shares. At the same time, several departures have been canceled to adjust supply to the still uncertain post-Chinese New Year demand.
For freight forwarding professionals, this volatility confirms that maritime flow planning must now incorporate rapid adjustments and constant monitoring of alliances.
