UPS Healthcare has announced the opening of three specialized cross-docking facilities in Milan, Frankfurt, and Mexico City, enhancing its global logistics capabilities for temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical shipments.

Key Features of the New Facilities

  • Milan Facility: Spanning 28,500 square meters, this facility offers over 20,000 pallet positions for storage at 2 to 8°C and 15 to 25°C. Its strategic location adjacent to the airport enables direct transfer of shipments to outbound vehicles, reducing delivery times.

  • Frankfurt Facility: Designed to handle temperature ranges of -15 to -25°C, 2 to 8°C, and 15 to 25°C, this facility is situated near Frankfurt Airport and UPS’s European air hub at Cologne Bonn Airport. This positioning allows for expedited transit times, including next-day and two-day services to global destinations.

  • Mexico City Facility: Covering 10,700 square meters, this facility supports ambient to frozen temperature ranges (2 to 8°C, 15 to 25°C, and -15 to -25°C). It has achieved CEIV Pharma Certification, underscoring UPS’s commitment to maintaining high standards in temperature-sensitive healthcare logistics.

These expansions are part of UPS Healthcare’s strategy to meet the growing demand for precision logistics in the pharmaceutical sector, where 80% of products in Europe require temperature-controlled transportation.

Felipe Morgulis, President of Global Logistics and Distribution at UPS Healthcare, stated, “We have the know-how to get patient-critical shipments where they need to be, on time and at the right temperature. Through our integrated, end-to-end offering, we can take products from clinical trial to the patient, simplifying supply chains and building resiliency.”

These developments follow the recent inauguration of a cross-docking facility in Hyderabad, India, further strengthening UPS Healthcare’s global network to support the safe and efficient transportation of pharmaceutical products.
