JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA — Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) and CMA CGM Group said they will invest $434 million to develop and operate Terminal 4 at Jeddah Islamic Port, increasing the port’s ability to handle containers and supporting Saudi Arabia’s maritime goals.

The project is being developed in partnership with Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) and is one of the largest foreign direct investments in Saudi’s maritime sector.

The agreement was signed in Paris on the sidelines of the French-Saudi Investment Roundtable Meeting, which was attended by the Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and the French President Emmanuel Macron.

The investment will allow for the development of a new state-of-the-art container terminal under RSGT’s existing concession at Jeddah Islamic Port.

The new Terminal 4 is expected to increase the port’s annual container-handling capacity by as much as 2.6 million TEU, helping the port expand its ability to handle growing regional and international trade volumes.

The new facility will have deep-water berths able to accommodate the world’s largest container ships and state-of-the-art terminal technologies that will improve operational efficiency.

The project will also include 10 new ship-to-shore cranes that will boost the terminal’s cargo-handling capacity.

RSGT and CMA CGM’s investment is part of the continuous development of Jeddah Islamic Port as a strategic maritime and logistics gateway and is in line with Saudi Arabia’s broader plans to expand its port infrastructure and international trade capacity.
