Cargo traffic at London Heathrow rose by 4% year on year in February, reaching almost 130,000 tonnes, according to the airport, which said growth was achieved despite a lower number of cargo-only flights.
The increase was driven by better use of bellyhold space on passenger services, allowing Heathrow to offset the reduction in freighter activity.
The airport also confirmed that it continues to monitor events in the Middle East closely and remains ready to respond to requests for additional flights as operational demand evolves.
Chief executive Thomas Woldbye said Heathrow stands ready to help minimise disruption and support airline partners as they navigate an increasingly difficult operating environment.
Alongside the traffic update, the airport once again highlighted the case for expansion, especially the need for a third runway.
Heathrow said the world’s most connected airport is already full and argued that its expansion plans are necessary if the UK is to maintain competitiveness and deliver the infrastructure needed for future economic growth.
