Dollar General has appointed Matt Lucas as vice president of supply chain optimization, adding a new leadership role as the discount retailer continues efforts to improve network design, inventory flow and overall supply chain performance.

According to a March 31 press release, Lucas will use data analysis and financial modelling to optimise network design, support technology development and improve product flow. He will also help guide investment priorities across Dollar General’s supply chain network.

Lucas joined the company in 2013 as an operations manager and has held a number of roles since then. Most recently, he served as vice president of distribution center operations. His earlier positions included several senior director roles covering distribution center operations, distribution center initiatives and perishables distribution operations.

Before joining Dollar General, Lucas also worked at The Home Depot, Williams-Sonoma and Target, according to his LinkedIn profile.

The appointment is part of a wider executive reshuffle at the retailer. Dollar General has also promoted Kyle Gorman to vice president of distribution. In that role, he will oversee operations at facilities in Alachua and Orlando, Florida; Bessemer and Montgomery, Alabama; and Longview, Texas.

Gorman has been with Dollar General since 2016 and has held several distribution leadership roles across facilities in Wisconsin, Indiana and Pennsylvania. Most recently, he served as senior director of continuous improvement.

Other recent executive changes include Heather Land being named vice president and division merchandise manager of pOpshelf, Trent Napier becoming vice president of construction, and Neal Norris being appointed vice president of financial planning and analysis.

The supply chain appointments come as Dollar General works to streamline its operations, with a particular emphasis on reducing inventory complexity. Over the past few years, the retailer has removed more than 1,500 SKUs from its portfolio, choosing instead to focus on products with faster turnover.
