A Redwater, Alberta, industrial services company has been fined $132,000 following a 2023 workplace incident that left a worker seriously injured.
Brock Canada Field Services Ltd. pled guilty to one offense under Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety Act for failing to ensure the health and safety of a worker in the Fort Saskatchewan Court of Justice on July 30.
The incident happened on August 10, 2023 at a worksite with Brock Canada Field Services and Nutrien (Canada) Holdings ULC.
According to case information, the worker entered a scaffold to remove hoarding and slipped and fell into an open utility corridor at ground level. The corridor was filled with hot water and the worker was seriously injured.
Both Brock Canada Field Services Ltd. and Nutrien (Canada) Holdings ULC were charged after the incident. The other charges against the two companies were later dismissed.
The $132,000 penalty follows Brock Canada Field Services’ guilty plea and ends the current court proceedings against the company for the offense.
The company and the Crown each have 30 days to appeal either the conviction or the penalty.
