Skyward Airlines has launched a new direct route between Nairobi’s Wilson Airport and Garissa expanding its domestic network and opening access to one of Kenya’s fastest growing regional economies.
The service, which starts this week, will run four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. It will provide faster and more reliable connections for passengers and cargo.
The flights leave Wilson Airport at 11:00 a.m. and arrive in Garissa at 11:50 a.m., significantly shrinking the distance between the two destinations.
Opportunities unlocked in North Eastern Kenya
The new route is expected to boost economic ties between Nairobi and North Eastern Kenya, a region that is increasingly important for trade, humanitarian work and cross-border business.
Garissa is a strategic gateway for business operations in relation to Somalia and neighboring counties and better air connectivity is an important driver of regional development.
The direct flights are also expected to facilitate faster cargo movements, giving businesses better access to markets and supply chains.
Connecting communities and business
The launch is part of Skyward Airlines’ commitment to serve regions that have been traditionally underserved with air transport services, the airline says.
Chief Executive Officer Diana Nyambura said the Garissa route marked a major milestone in bringing North Eastern Kenya close to the rest of the country and strengthening links between communities, businesses and government institutions.
Supporting growth beyond just passenger travel
The service should help the movement of goods, support humanitarian organizations operating in the region and stimulate new investment opportunities, as well as benefit passengers.
As regional economies grow, improved air connectivity is increasingly viewed as a key driver for business activity, stronger logistics networks and long-term economic development.
The inclusion of Garissa into its network further reinforces Skyward Airlines’ position as a regional airline committed to linking underserved markets and supporting Kenya’s broader economic integration goals.
