Zambia Airways has appointed Aman Wole Gurmu as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 August 2026, bringing an aviation executive with nearly two decades of international industry experience to lead the national carrier.
The appointment was announced by Zambia Airways (2014) Limited, which said the move reflects the board’s ambition to strengthen leadership as the airline enters its next stage of growth.
Nearly 20 years in international aviation
Gurmu brings around 19 years of experience across the aviation sector, with a career spanning airline leadership, commercial strategy, sales, market development and strategic partnerships.
Much of his professional experience was gained at Ethiopian Airlines, where he spent more than 18 years in a variety of commercial and sales leadership positions.
His long tenure at one of Africa’s leading aviation groups gives him extensive experience in developing markets, strengthening airline revenues and building commercial partnerships.
Experience in Addis Ababa
Before moving to Zambia Airways, Gurmu served as Director of Addis Ababa Sales at Ethiopian Airlines.
In that position, he was in charge of the airline’s sales strategy in the Addis Ababa market with a focus on increasing revenue and market share.
His commercial development experience is expected to be an asset to Zambia Airways as the carrier seeks to strengthen operations and improve connectivity.
The appointment is timely for Zambia Airways and sees Gurmu tasked with using his international airline experience to help the carrier in its next phase of development and growth.
