HONG KONG — Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) and Qatar Airways Cargo have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cargo connectivity from Hong Kong to the airline’s global air freight network.
Qatar Airways Cargo operates some 56 weekly flights to and from HKIA with a mix of belly-hold capacity and dedicated freighter services.
As part of the partnership, Qatar Airways Cargo has also relocated its regional office to Hong Kong, enhancing its market presence and connection to the airport’s expanding cargo ecosystem.
The agreement is expected to allow the carrier to further expand its operations at HKIA by increasing flight frequencies and exploring new routes via Hong Kong.
The partnership is expected to further enhance Hong Kong’s position as a leading global air cargo hub and strengthen the links between the city and destinations across Qatar Airways Cargo’s global network.
Beyond the connectivity: cooperation
The MoU also sets a framework for wider cooperation between the two organizations.
Potential areas of collaboration include operational excellence, service enhancement and sustainable development, and developing aviation talent.
The partners will study options to develop talent through the programs of the Hong Kong International Aviation Academy.
Sustainability and workforce development are fostered through enhanced cargo connectivity and collaboration in operations as HKIA and Qatar Airways Cargo join forces to boost the airport’s standing in the global air freight network and support the ongoing expansion of Hong Kong’s aviation industry.
