B&H Worldwide, Singapore’s aerospace logistics specialist, has partnered with Temasek Polytechnic’s School of Business for an industry-focused educational project, inviting media students to breathe life into the complex world of global aviation logistics through audio storytelling.

The project involved Year 2 Communications & Media Management (CMM) undergraduates working outside of the traditional classroom setting on a real-world business-to-business media project for 12 weeks. The graded module, worked on in collaboration with Temasek Polytechnic lecturers and B&H Worldwide’s global marketing department, tasked student teams with researching specialist topics in aviation logistics, identifying compelling angles for storytelling, interviewing international industry experts and producing a fully polished 10-minute podcast documentary.

The project gave students direct access to subject matter experts from B&H Worldwide’s global operations. The mentorship enabled participants to carry out primary research and gain first-hand knowledge of a highly specialized and rapidly changing sector which was unknown to many of them.

Many of the podcasts produced discussed the challenges of transporting critical aircraft parts across borders. Students were researching cross-border logistics and regulatory requirements, especially around how aviation parts are shipped on tight timeframes and under complex international regulations.

Other teams studied supply chain disruption and risk management, considering real-world contingencies, emergency mitigation measures and actions needed to maintain operational continuity during global crises.

Aerospace logistics covered well the human side also. Students shone a spotlight on the professionals who work behind the scenes to keep global aircraft fleets in operation, and looked at the difficult operational balance between extreme delivery speed and the strict safety and compliance standards expected across the aviation sector.

The assignment was more than just research, interviews and audio production. Students were also required to develop complete promotional and distribution plans for their podcast episodes. This involved evaluating the demographics of the target audience, choosing the appropriate platforms and developing multi-channel content marketing strategies to reach the documentaries to relevant industry audiences and the wider public.

Head of Marketing at B&H Worldwide Group, Wei Koon Goh, said the partnership was a great example of how students could take very specialized knowledge and turn it into accessible storytelling.

“This collaboration gave students the opportunity to work on a real B2B challenge and an industry that many of them have never been exposed to before,” said Goh. “Aerospace logistics is a complicated subject, but the students have shown that with curiosity, research and creativity, they can turn specialist knowledge into stories that people want to hear.”

He said: “It was especially rewarding for B&H Worldwide to open the organization to the students and to give them the chance to learn directly from employees working in the sector.”

The 12-week program culminated in the B&H Worldwide x CMM Audio Production Podcast Awards, an event that celebrated the students’ creative work and dedication throughout the assignment.

The finale brought students, academic staff and B&H Worldwide executives together for an interactive presentation of the best performing podcast documentaries. The program also featured a fireside panel discussion on storytelling techniques, creative strategy and the changing future of audio media production.

The event culminated in the presentation of trophies to the best three student productions.

“Exposing students to real life industry challenges is critical,” said Li Yann Long, the course chair for the School of Business Communications & Media Management at Temasek Polytechnic.

“The students had to go into a sector that many of them were unfamiliar with, ask better questions, understand complex subject matter and then convert what they learned into a story worth listening to,” said Li.

He added that working with a real industry partner provided an experience that would be difficult to replicate in just a classroom. The awards celebrated the students’ work, but the greater achievement was the learning process, where students learned new skills and created material that could help their portfolios and future careers, he said.

The move highlights the need for greater cooperation between industry and academia. B&H Worldwide and Temasek Polytechnic have brought new perspectives to the specialized but essential world of aerospace logistics, while helping students gain practical experience and portfolio-ready work, by linking emerging media professionals with real corporate challenges.
