The Indian Air Force (IAF) has mobilised two aircraft to deliver a total of 47.5 tonnes of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief supplies to Nepal, following devastating flash floods that struck the country on 26 August.

The floods have claimed several lives, left many people unaccounted for and caused extensive damage to settlements, roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure.

The first aircraft, a C-130J bearing tail number KC-3804, departed at around 8:30 pm on 26 August with 10 tonnes of relief supplies. Its cargo included temporary shelters, blankets, hygiene kits and medicines intended to support people affected by the disaster.

A second aircraft, a C-17 with tail number CB-8005, subsequently departed from Hindon Airbase in Ghaziabad. It carried 37.5 tonnes of supplies, comprising 28.5 tonnes of relief materials, 8 tonnes of medicines and 1 tonne of food packets.

India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said the country’s humanitarian assistance and medical supplies had reached Kathmandu. He added that additional support was being mobilised, while stressing that India remained in close and continuous contact with Nepalese authorities.

Jaishankar also reaffirmed India’s commitment to strongly supporting Nepal’s ongoing relief operations as the country responds to the impact of the deadly floods.
