Canpotex, a joint venture of The Mosaic Company and Nutrien Ltd., is investing $500 million to replace and modernize infrastructure at its terminal at the Port of Vancouver.
The investment will be targeted to Neptune Bulk Terminals where the company intends to upgrade key facilities including shiploaders, conveyors and other terminal infrastructure needed for potash exports.
Canpotex says construction is expected to be completed in 2028. Despite the scale of the work, potash shipments are expected to continue uninterrupted throughout the construction period.
“This project will help move more Saskatchewan potash into international markets, supporting economic growth in the province and across Canada,” Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe said in a news release.
“The investment will allow Canpotex to continue to export potash through the Port of Vancouver for decades to come, reinforcing the terminal’s long-term role in the company’s global supply chain,” said Canpotex CEO Gordon McKenzie.
Canpotex, based in Saskatoon, markets and ships Mosaic and Nutrien potash to customers worldwide.
