Japan Airlines (JAL) has renewed its partnership with CHAMP Cargosystems for several years, helping the airline to modernize its cargo operations with the upcoming launch of Cargospot neo, an AI-enabled cargo management platform.
The new agreement marks a new chapter in a 12-year collaboration. It is intended to ensure CHAMP’s technology continues to meet JAL’s evolving business needs as the Japanese carrier accelerates the digital transformation of its cargo activities.
Cargospot neo to support JAL’s digital transformation
Cargospot neo is the technology provider’s next generation cargo management system, based on the CHAMP neo Platform. Its architecture is based on application programming interfaces (APIs) and artificial intelligence (AI) to connect operational, commercial and financial activities in a single environment.
Airlines, freight forwarders, ground handling companies and technology providers will be able to integrate to the platform. “The goal is to simplify these connections to deliver better operational visibility, enhanced flexibility and more automation across the air cargo supply chain.
Artificial intelligence is also expected to help in commercial planning, process optimization, business decisions and capacity management. “The capabilities are designed to enable airlines to respond more effectively to changing market dynamics and customer demands, while modernizing their systems without disrupting existing operations.
Building on existing digital cargo services
The transition is founded on digital initiatives underway at JAL and CHAMP. The two companies have collaborated over the years on a number of services to reduce paperwork for domestic cargo and enable JAL’s international and domestic partners to self-serve.
Services include API integrations and mobile capabilities, run on CHAMP’s neo Platform to enable digital interactions across the airline’s cargo network.
JAL also has several other CHAMP solutions supporting its cargo operations. They meet business process, customs and security compliance requirements, and business intelligence capabilities.
The deal extends an existing technology partnership and the planned move to Cargospot neo should provide a more integrated platform for the airline’s future cargo requirements.
A thriving air cargo technology ecosystem
CHAMP Cargosystems has a common ambition to accelerate digitization in the airfreight industry.
“The renewal is a reflection of the strength of the long-standing relationship between the two companies and our shared ambition to improve air cargo operations,” said Manuel Galindo, Chief Executive Officer of CHAMP Cargosystems.
He said the planned move to Cargospot neo Airline would give the carrier AI-powered cargo operations, digital sales capabilities and broad connectivity to industry partners and commercial channels.
Under the agreement, JAL plans to leverage its existing digital infrastructure and set up its cargo business for more connected, automated and responsive operations. The move additionally emphasizes the increasing prominence of AI-enabled platforms and API-based integration in the ongoing modernization of air cargo management.
