Former President Donald Trump was the target of what the FBI has called an “apparent assassination attempt” at his West Palm Beach golf club on Sunday. This marks the second such attempt on Trump’s life in just over two months. The Republican presidential candidate confirmed that he is safe, while authorities have taken a suspect into custody.
The incident occurred when Secret Service agents stationed near the golf course noticed the muzzle of a rifle, resembling an AK-style weapon, emerging from the bushes about 400 yards from where Trump was playing. One of the agents quickly responded by firing at the suspect, causing the individual to drop the weapon and flee the scene in an SUV.
Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw reported that law enforcement recovered the abandoned rifle, two backpacks, a scope, and a GoPro camera at the scene. The suspect was later apprehended by authorities in a neighboring county.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the motive behind the attack.
