The Ministry of Transport (MoT) in Qatar has reported a significant milestone, completing 11,596 maritime transport transactions in 2024, reflecting the nation’s robust expansion in this sector.

Quarterly Breakdown of Transactions

  • First Quarter: 544 transactions
  • Second Quarter: 4,767 transactions
  • Third Quarter: 275 transactions
  • Fourth Quarter: 6,010 transactions

The substantial increase in the fourth quarter underscores the dynamic growth and enhanced operational efficiency within Qatar’s maritime industry.

Key Services Facilitated

The transactions encompassed a range of essential services, including:

  • Issuance and Accreditation of Certificates of Competency (C.O.C): Ensuring that maritime professionals, such as naval architects and marine officers, meet the required standards for safe manning.
  • Maritime Vessel Services: Handling ownership transfers, renewals, and registrations to maintain an up-to-date and compliant fleet.
  • Foreign Vessel Operations: Managing data modifications and renewals for vessels operating within Qatar’s territorial waters.

Strategic Initiatives and Developments

Aligned with its strategic objectives, the MoT is dedicated to advancing the maritime sector by:

  • Enhancing Legal Frameworks: Developing and modernizing regulations governing maritime activities to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Strengthening Technical and Administrative Oversight: Improving processes related to inspections, examinations, control measures, and accident investigations.

Qatar’s commitment to maritime excellence is further exemplified by state-of-the-art facilities like Hamad Port, the nation’s primary gateway for international trade, and Ruwais Port, which supports economic development in the northern regions.

The country’s proactive approach includes fostering collaborations with various stakeholders in the maritime domain and active participation in international forums and workshops. Notably, the inaugural Seatrade Maritime Qatar Conference and Exhibition was held in Doha, focusing on topics such as sustainable shipping, digitalization, energy transitions in the maritime sector, and financing eco-friendly fleets.

These concerted efforts underscore Qatar’s dedication to positioning itself as a leading hub in the global maritime industry.
