February 26, 2025 – Air India has announced a new cargo handling partnership with Menzies Aviation, covering four key international locations as part of its expansion strategy. Under the agreement, Menzies will provide cargo warehouse services at Kuwait International Airport (KWI), Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Sydney Airport (SYD), and Melbourne Airport (MEL).

Expanding Cargo Operations

The teams at these four locations are expected to handle approximately 9,000 tonnes of cargo within the first year of the agreement. This move aligns with Air India’s broader growth strategy, which aims to significantly increase cargo capacity in the coming years.

The collaboration with Menzies Aviation is part of a larger deal that includes passenger services, ramp operations, de-icing, and aircraft cleaning across multiple global airports, including London Heathrow (LHR), Copenhagen (CPH), Toronto Pearson (YYZ), Kuwait (KWI), and Los Angeles (LAX).

Strategic Expansion Plans

Air India, headquartered in Gurugram, India, handled 250,000 tonnes of cargo in 2024 and is rapidly expanding its fleet. Last year, the airline added 100 new aircraft to an existing order of 470 planes, reflecting its commitment to tripling its cargo capacity in the coming years.

Currently, Air India employs over 30,000 people and operates 300 aircraft, serving 55 domestic and 48 international destinations.

Philipp Joeinig, CEO of Menzies Aviation, highlighted the importance of this new collaboration:

“We’re excited to enter a new chapter in our relationship with Air India, expanding our footprint across the globe. This latest win underscores the progress we are making on our ambitious growth plans and reflects the safe, secure, and high-quality services that we offer our customers.”

Strengthening Global Handling Partnerships

This is Air India’s second major cargo handling deal of the year. In January 2025, the airline announced an expanded partnership with WFS, awarding and renewing a range of cargo handling contracts across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America.

Following a global tender process, Air India renewed 11 contracts and awarded 14 new agreements to SATS-owned WFS, with operations at major hubs including Chicago, Washington Dulles, London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Birmingham, Frankfurt, Milan, Kuala Lumpur, and Hong Kong.

Looking Ahead

With aggressive fleet expansion and strategic global partnerships, Air India is positioning itself as a leading force in international cargo logistics. The collaborations with Menzies Aviation and WFS reinforce the airline’s commitment to enhancing operational efficiency, expanding its network, and strengthening its global market presence.
