Canadian Utilities has received regulatory approval from the Alberta Utilities Commission to move forward with its $2.9 billion Yellowhead natural gas pipeline project, allowing construction to begin immediately.
The project will include the construction and operation of a 235-kilometre natural gas transmission pipeline stretching from the Peers area in west-central Alberta to the Fort Saskatchewan region, along with the development of a new compressor station.
Once operational, the pipeline is expected to transport more than 1.1 billion cubic feet of natural gas, strengthening Alberta’s natural gas transmission network and supporting future energy demand.
Canadian Utilities confirmed that all major contracts required for the project have already been awarded, including agreements covering pipeline construction, compressor station development, materials and equipment supply.
The company also expects the project to provide a significant economic boost during the construction phase, creating approximately 2,000 direct construction jobs.
Canadian Utilities is a unit of Atco Ltd. The Yellowhead pipeline is among the company’s largest infrastructure investments to expand natural gas transportation capacity in Alberta.
