Construction has officially begun on two new affordable housing projects in Coquitlam, British Columbia, that will provide 158 rental homes for seniors.
The developments are being delivered through the Community Housing Fund in partnership with the Province of British Columbia, through BC Housing, the City of Coquitlam, and S.U.C.C.E.S.S., the non-profit organization that will own and manage the buildings.
The first project is located at 290 Laval Square, in Coquitlam’s historic Maillardville neighbourhood. It will include a three-storey building with 42 affordable homes, adjacent to the Maillardville Community Centre. Residents will be able to take advantage of the centre’s programs, activities and community services just steps from their homes.
The second development, at 443 Clayton Street in the Burquitlam-Lougheed neighbourhood, will add 116 affordable rental homes in a six-storey building.
The two projects together will help more seniors gain access to affordable housing that meets their changing needs.
All of the homes will be accessible or adaptable, making them appropriate for residents with different mobility needs, and helping seniors remain independent longer.
When completed, the developments will be more than new housing. They will give older adults the chance to be in safe, modern homes but still stay connected to the services, amenities and communities that support their daily lives.
