A container vessel has been damaged after being struck by an unidentified projectile in the Arabian Gulf, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
The incident occurred approximately 25 nautical miles south of Kish Island, with the impact causing damage above the waterline. All crew members were reported safe, and no environmental impact has been identified.
The attack marks the latest in a series of incidents targeting container ships in the region. On 5 April, a vessel at berth in Khor Fakkan, UAE, reported a near miss after multiple projectiles landed in close proximity.
The same day, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed responsibility for a strike on a container vessel at Jebel Ali Port, believed to refer to the Marshall Islands-flagged Qingdao Star. However, that incident has not been independently verified.
Iran also claimed to have targeted another vessel, MSC Ishyka, in the Strait of Hormuz on 4 April, allegedly causing a fire onboard. No independent confirmation has emerged, and tracking data indicated that a similarly named vessel was docked in Bahrain at the time.
The growing frequency of such incidents is raising concerns across the shipping industry, as security risks in the Gulf continue to escalate.
