Descartes Systems Group is expanding its presence in the third-party logistics technology market with the acquisition of Extensiv, a California-based provider of warehouse management and fulfillment software, in a transaction valued at $120 million.

Announced Tuesday, the deal was financed with cash on hand and comes just one week after Descartes completed its $100 million acquisition of Tai, a technology provider serving freight brokers.

Extensiv’s platform is designed to support 3PLs with inventory management and order fulfillment. The company also uses artificial intelligence to analyze omnichannel data and provide warehouse operators with additional intelligence to support operational decision-making.

“3PLs are under constant pressure to fulfill faster, scale flexibly, and support the evolving needs of modern brands,” said Mikel Richardson, general manager of ecommerce operations at Descartes.

He added that Extensiv will strengthen Descartes’ position by bringing additional participants, richer operational data and fulfillment intelligence into the Descartes Global Logistics Network.

The acquisition follows a broader strategy by Descartes to expand its reach among logistics service providers. Similar to the addition of Tai, the Extensiv transaction gives the company deeper exposure to the 3PL segment while extending its capabilities in warehousing, inventory management and ecommerce fulfillment.

“The combination of Extensiv with Descartes’ transportation, connectivity, visibility, trade intelligence, customs compliance, and last mile delivery solutions, enables logistics service providers to expand their offerings and scale operations with a single technology provider versus a patchwork of vendors,” said Scott Sangster, general manager of logistics services providers at Descartes.

The Extensiv deal is the latest in a series of acquisitions by Descartes. The company acquired Latin American last-mile logistics technology provider Drivin for $30 million in July, followed by the $28 million acquisition of Pittsburgh-based fleet safety solutions provider Idelic in April.

Descartes, which trades on the Nasdaq under the ticker DSGX, is scheduled to report its fiscal second-quarter 2027 results on Sept. 10 after the market closes.

Why it matters

The Extensiv acquisition reinforces Descartes’ push to build a more comprehensive, end-to-end supply chain technology network. The transaction is consistent with the company’s strategy of acquiring businesses that fill gaps in its existing product portfolio while adding new capabilities and data to its broader logistics ecosystem.
