DHL Group has announced a strategic partnership with Neste, a leading provider of renewable fuels, to accelerate decarbonization efforts in global logistics. This collaboration will focus on reducing emissions across DHL’s supply chain, leveraging sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel to support cleaner freight operations.

Key Initiatives of the DHL–Neste Partnership:

  • Increased Use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF): DHL will integrate Neste’s SAF into its air cargo operations, reducing carbon emissions for long-haul shipments.
  • Renewable Diesel for Ground Transport: DHL will expand the use of Neste’s renewable diesel in its road freight and last-mile delivery services.
  • Global Carbon Reduction Commitment: The partnership aligns with DHL’s goal of cutting logistics-related emissions to net zero by 2050.

Why This Partnership is Critical for Sustainable Logistics

✅ Lowering Carbon Footprint in Air Freight
With air cargo being one of the highest-emission sectors, DHL’s use of SAF can cut CO₂ emissions by up to 80%, significantly improving eco-friendly shipping solutions.

✅ Expanding Green Fleet Capabilities
The use of renewable diesel in DHL’s road transport will reduce dependency on fossil fuels, supporting the shift toward low-emission trucking.

✅ Enhancing Supply Chain Sustainability
By integrating sustainable fuel alternatives, DHL is providing logistics customers with greener shipping options, reinforcing sustainability in global trade and e-commerce logistics.

✅ Advancing Logistics Sector Climate Goals
As major logistics players face increasing regulatory and consumer pressure to reduce emissions, DHL’s partnership with Neste positions it as a leader in sustainable freight innovation.

Executive Insights:

Dr. Thomas Ogilvie, Chief Human Resources Officer and Sustainability Sponsor at DHL Group, highlighted the significance of this initiative:

“Sustainability is a core focus for DHL, and our collaboration with Neste enables us to accelerate the transition toward low-carbon logistics. By investing in SAF and renewable fuels, we are making tangible progress in achieving our net-zero emissions goal.”

A Neste spokesperson added:

“Partnering with DHL allows us to scale up the use of renewable fuels in logistics, making a significant impact on emissions reduction while maintaining operational efficiency.”

Future Outlook for Sustainable Logistics

🔹 Increased adoption of biofuels in aviation and road transport.
🔹 Further investment in hydrogen and electric trucking solutions.
🔹 Enhanced carbon tracking and reporting for eco-conscious shippers.

With sustainable logistics becoming a priority, DHL and Neste’s partnership represents a major step toward achieving greener, low-carbon freight solutions worldwide.
