DHL is expanding its logistics footprint in Mexico’s State of Mexico with an investment of nearly MXN 300 million during the current state administration, supporting job creation and economic activity in Nextlalpan, according to the state government.
The German multinational has allocated the funding to the opening of three logistics warehouses in the municipality, an area benefiting from its proximity to Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA). The investment is reinforcing the region’s position as an emerging hub for logistics operations and industrial development.
The announcement was highlighted during the inauguration of DHL Supply Chain’s third warehouse, where Laura González Hernández, the state’s Secretary of Economic Development, outlined the scale of the project and its expected contribution to local employment.
The new facility covers more than 60,000 square metres and is expected to generate approximately 600 direct formal jobs for residents of the surrounding area.
Prime location near a major air cargo gateway
The warehouse belongs to the DHL Mega Campus, located at TMex Park, an industrial park that is one of the most promising sites in the State of Mexico for the development of logistics and industrial real estate.
DHL Supply Chain strengthens its logistics presence in Nextlalpan, State of Mexico, with new warehouse infrastructure near Felipe Ángeles International Airport.
The site provides companies access to an expanding network of transportation and logistics, with AIFA being a key competitive advantage. The airport currently processes one-third of the total air cargo volume in Mexico, so proximity to the airport is particularly valuable for companies that are looking for reliable long-term operating conditions,” said González Hernández.
The closeness to the airport, the industrial infrastructure and the available logistics space contribute to attracting investment to the area. These factors can assist supply chain operators in terms of cargo distribution, warehouse operations and links with broader domestic and international transport networks.
Growth in the Logistics Sector in the State of Mexico
The investment also points out the value of logistics to the State of Mexico’s economy in general. During the inauguration, González Hernández presented figures of the sector’s contribution to business activity and employment in the region.
There are more than 3,000 economic units in the logistics sector in the state, employing more than 760,000 residents. The figures underscore the importance of the industry as a major source of jobs and economic activity across the region.
Further logistics investment projects are expected to arrive in the coming months, the state government said, indicating the area could continue to be a draw for companies looking to establish or expand their operations.
Support of Private Investment by the Government
The state administration reiterated its commitment to support, promote and protect private investment as part of its broader economic development strategy.
This is a policy that the government will continue to implement in its current period with the aim of consolidating the State of Mexico as one of the main economic centers in the country.
DHL’s investment in Nextlalpan is an example of how development of logistics infrastructure can contribute to that goal. The project adds to the increasing industrial and logistics capacity of the region, with three warehouses already established in the municipality, a new facility that is expected to generate some 600 direct formal jobs, and access to an important air cargo gateway.
