China State Shipbuilding Corporation has announced that its wholly owned subsidiary Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co has signed a contract to build 12 container ships with a total value of around RMB9 billion, or approximately $1.31 billion.
The order covers twelve 9,200 teu vessels and was placed by what CSSC described as a major international shipowner, although the customer’s identity has not been disclosed.
The agreement places the average value of each vessel at about RMB750 million. Deliveries are scheduled to take place in stages between 2028 and 2030.
CSSC said the ships represent a new generation of medium-sized container vessels developed in response to global green shipping trends and the latest international environmental requirements.
According to the company, the design offers leading performance in efficiency, environmental capability and operational reliability compared with similar ships in the market.
CSSC added that the project will make full use of DSIC’s strengths in construction efficiency, support further upgrading of its product structure, and reinforce its track record and brand profile in the container ship sector.
Earlier this month, DSIC also revealed several additional orders, mainly for very large crude carriers and product tankers.
