DoorDash is expanding its presence in retail with new partnerships that allow shoppers to order products from Gap, Kohl’s, Barnes & Noble and Carter’s through its quick-delivery marketplace.

The company announced the partnerships on Aug. 18, as retailers entered the busy back-to-school shopping period. For DoorDash, the deals are designed to put products in front of consumers at the moment they need them, according to Mike Goldblatt, the company’s vice president of enterprise partnerships.

The expansion brings DoorDash’s retail assortment to more than 500,000 products eligible for delivery in less than an hour. The available categories include apparel, books, household products and other everyday goods.

The Kohl’s agreement represents DoorDash’s first department-store partnership covering a selection that ranges from clothing to home merchandise. Barnes & Noble, meanwhile, gives the delivery platform its first large-scale offering focused on books.

As retailers continue looking for ways to satisfy consumers who increasingly expect rapid fulfillment, same-day and near-immediate delivery services are becoming more common in 2026.

Amazon, for example, has introduced one-hour and three-hour delivery options in recent months, while Walmart-owned Sam’s Club has launched a one-hour delivery service of its own.

DoorDash has also continued building its retail network throughout the year. The company has established partnerships with Foot Locker, Urban Outfitters and other retailers. During the first quarter alone, DoorDash completed tens of millions of retail and grocery deliveries in less than 30 minutes, reaching customers across more than 22,000 ZIP codes.

For Gap, the agreement extends the company’s push to make its products more immediately accessible to customers. Mark Breitbard, president and CEO of Gap Brand, said the partnership combines the reach of Gap and Gap Factory with the speed and convenience shoppers increasingly expect.

Gap Inc. was already connected to DoorDash before the latest agreements. Its Old Navy division launched a partnership with the delivery company in 2025, establishing an earlier link between the two businesses.

The growing number of retail partnerships also highlights DoorDash’s effort to diversify its business beyond restaurant deliveries.

Retail and grocery are becoming increasingly significant categories for the company. According to DoorDash’s Aug. 5 earnings release, the total dollar value of marketplace orders in those categories posted strong year-over-year growth during the second quarter, while the company also reported a significant improvement in unit economics.

The latest partnerships with major retailers therefore represent more than an expansion of DoorDash’s product selection. They reinforce the company’s broader strategy of making fast, on-demand delivery a larger part of everyday shopping.
